Himachal is a paradise for Para gliders with lots of options for paragliding, having theworld Olympic paragliding site at Billing. The recent years have seen a tremendous surge in the paragliding opportunities and people looking for this wonderful adventure sport that allows humans to live their most longing fantasy of flying. Manali, Dalhousie and Dharamshala serves as other sites for paragliding.
Sites for Paragliding:-
Although there are many places of interest in Himachal Pradesh, two tourist spots are more spoken of than others, Dharamshala and Manali. The adventure enthusiast can enjoy paragliding at both of these locations. While in Dharamshala Bir-Billing is a famous site for paragliding, tourist can take the joy of Paragliding in Solang Valley in Manali. Also on the way to Rohtang pass there are many sites you may find the paragliders jumping from.
What all do you need for paragliding:-
You need not have any specific knowledge for paragliding but there are things you need to take care of. Wear footwear that provides as much ankle support as possible; sturdy boots are best. Bring gloves, Sun Glasses and kneepads if you have them. Bring more warm clothes than you think that you will need, since when paragliding we are in a constant 20 mph wind and it can feel cold. You may bring a small camera on the flight, but secure the camera to you with a strap. It may take some while so bring water and maybe some snacks.
Best Season for Paragliding:-
Best flying season in the region is September to November but almost open all over the year depending upon the weather except rainy season (July-August). Also Authorities continues to host International level competitions and events in the region.
It usually costs Rs 2000/- per person for paragliding (without transportation) for 20-30 minutes Tandem flight. For a fun ride ( only at Solang Valley) it costs around 500/- for 2-3 minutes flight.
